What stays in your browser
Guest watchlists, read markers, trips, notes and pending saves use browser storage. An upgrade preserves the original-format browser data as a separately exportable backup. Browser storage may be cleared by your browser; export important records.
Optional account storage
Accounts use a dedicated Amazon Cognito user pool. Email and authentication information live in Cognito. Signing in does not upload your guest collection. You explicitly enable cloud saving and choose whether to import. Personal collection records are stored in a dedicated DynamoDB table, not in the public park dataset or another Kam application’s account table.
Confirmation and recovery
A pending or failed request is not described as a confirmed save. Guest import retains the current guest copy until acknowledged writes and independent readback confirm the imported records. A separate original-format backup may remain on the device. Exporting or importing is free.
Location and external services
Near me asks for permission only when pressed and uses approximate coordinates in this browser. Coordinates are not saved or sent to our application backend. NPS image hosts, Google Maps links and normal hosting services receive ordinary web requests. No advertising pixels, behavioral analytics or model inference are included.
Deletion and retention
You can clear this browser’s collection and original-format backup, reset the active account collection, or delete the account. Account deletion removes the active state and sign-in identity. A minimal content-free deletion marker can remain to prevent interrupted requests from restoring deleted records. Backup recovery points may remain for up to seven days. Old transaction receipts retain only request hashes and identifiers and expire asynchronously. Downloads and offline copies on other devices are not remotely erased. The account screen states collection limits; unlimited retention or a complete immutable revision archive is not promised.
Account verification and password recovery use transactional email. Creating an account or enabling cloud storage does not subscribe you to marketing, news alerts, or promotional campaigns.
